Otolith Necklace – telling the Cods' tales. A friend came by my work/shop in Henningsvær to give me a profound little piece from the ocean. It’s a small piece inside the cods ear called an Otolith. The “earstone” of the Cod fish is a hard, calcium carbonate structure located directly behind the brain. It helps detect sound and the hearing of course, but what is really exciting is that researchers at the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research have been able to read age, growth, travel patterns amongst other important information. It’s just amazing – kind of how you can count the annual rings on trees. Us Norwegians love our mountains – you must know it already. I hope that this ring will bring memory from your visit in the arctic north, your home turf, or just a dream of getting to the top.

If the northern Norway and Narvik region is your home turf, you might already be involved with this lady. Have you been to Dronninga? The mountain is called Den Sovende Dronning (The Sleeping Queen) and is a different name for Skjomtinden. Locals often just call her “Dronninga” (the Queen). Her Majesty is resting from 1575 meters above the ocean and is a popular lady to visit. Some just admire her from afar and many go hiking and skiing to visit her. This design has been in sketching book for so long, and it feels fantastic to finally have her materialised! The first was ready in February 2020 and I have some made up and ready to send your way. This ring deserves both women and men. Inside you’ll see my stamps and “Den Sovende Dronning 1575 moh” hand engraved. (moh means meters above the ocean)

I’ve had a collaboration with a colleague who is a master at engraving. So happy and honoured to have you included on Dronninga, Kerstin Öberg. Please, find Kerstin at instagram as ostber.se if you would like to see more of this fantastic artists work.
